Óbuda University in Budapest has signed a partnership agreement with mobile operator Yettel Hungary to build a mobile communications network at the university using 5G technology.
In the framework of the strategic cooperation, the mobile company will cooperate with the higher education institution in the field of recruitment, in addition to supporting education, the university.
As part of the strategic agreement, Yettel has set up a mobile communication network using 5G mobile technology on the campus of Óbuda University in Bécsi Road, and the mobile operator has provided SIM cards and terminal equipment for testing purposes free of charge for the university.
According to Yettel’s announcement, the technical construction of the 5G network took place in the fall of 2022, and the mobile operator put its 5G station into operation on campus at the end of the year, thus providing full capacity for students and researchers. In addition to the campus network coverage, the IT and cybersecurity labs have been equipped with dedicated devices to enable students to conduct 5G-related research seamlessly indoors. The implementation of the development can contribute to the continuous development of the Hungarian mobile communications industry, to the exploration of new 5G applications and to their implementation in Hungary.
One of the key elements of the strategic cooperation is the contribution to education – Yettel is currently involved in the development of the curriculum of the telecommunications-related subject at the Neumann János Faculty of Informatics with several staff/teachers.
The common goal of the overall cooperation is to enable the continuously developing Hungarian mobile communication industry to employ well-qualified employees who are able and willing to learn new mobile technologies or even to adapt use cases based on mobile technology to the Hungarian environment. Under the strategic agreement, the university and Yettel will also cooperate in the future to develop a recruitment and internship program.
