In Budapest, the traditional venue for the May 1 celebrations is the City Park. This time, opposition parties held their celebration of the International Labor Day there and several trade unions held demonstrations against the current government"s labor policy.
The President of the Hungarian Trade Union Federation, László Kordás (pictured on the left) stressed that ever since the current government in ruling Hungary (in the past five years), even the last pillars guaranteeing protection for workers in Hungary were torn down. The governing party forced a new labor code on the employees and thus, Hungarians became the most vulnerable in the European Union.
