Hungarian military defends Baltic airspace

Hungary is in charge of the protection of the airspace of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for a period of four months as of 1 September as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission. Hungary took over the mission at the Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania from Norway and Italy.

A NATO radar station has been inaugurated in Medina, southern Hungary, completing the control of Hungarian airspace with the two similar 3D radar towers in the country. The total cost of the project is HUF 1.05 billion (EUR 3.4 million).

Hungarian planes to police skies of Slovenia, Baltics

Fighter aircraft of the Hungarian air force will be in charge of policing the airspace of Slovenia and the Baltic states under a NATO agreement, Defense Minister Csaba Hende said on Tuesday. These NATO countries do not have an air force of their own.

As of October 1st, Hungary took over the international mission to protect Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan from Belgium that performed this task for nearly ten years. Apart from Hungarians, the new protection force also includes Portuguese soldiers.

Hungarian army contributes to Euro 2012 security

International Border Police Conference in Budapest
