Technicians of the Hungarian military removed a 500-kilogram US bomb, hidden under water since WWII, from the river Danube near the Rákóczi Bridge in southern Budapest this Wednesday. The area was closed down for the duration of the operation.
A state of emergency is declared in Hungary due to the record high water levels expected on the river Danube. Dozens of people have been evacuated, so far – and many more are expected – and utilities have been switched off in some affected areas.
