Ensuring the independence of the central bank (NBH) and guaranteeing the normal functioning of the judiciary are preconditions for the start of formal talks with the IMF and the EU on financial assistance for Hungary, EU Commissioner László Andor says.
The European Commission found that financing granted to Hungarian flag carrier Malév between 2007 and 2010 in the context of its privatisation and renationalisation constitutes illegal state aid and must be repaid to the state.
European Union member states are free to decide on which pension system they adopt, so the European Commission will not interfere with Hungary's planned changes, according to Employment Commissioner László Andor.
