Roman Kowalski, who finished his five-year term at the end of September this year as the Polish ambassador to Hungary is one of the recepients of the Hungarian 'March of the Living' Foundation. He received the award in Budapest.

After almost six years in service as the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, Roman Kowalski bid farewell to fellow diplomats, friends and other invitees at the Gundel Restaurant this Friday before returning to Warsaw with his family.

The Polish Ambassador to Hungary, Roman Kowalski, who is leaving his post in the near future, gave an interview to the news portal globoport.hu in which he explained the meaning of the expression ‘Pole and Hungarian, two good friends’.

Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Human Resources Gergely Prõhle received the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, awarded by the Polish President in recognition of his merits in the development of Polish-Hungarian relations.

The ambassador of the Republic of Poland to, Roman Kowalski, has been awarded the 'Antall József Prize' named after the first democratically elected prime minister (1990-1993) of Hungary. The award was handed over by the widow of the late prime minister.

On the occassion of the May 3rd Constitution National Day, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Hungary, Roman Kowalski invited hundreds of guests to the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest.
In his speech, Ambassador Kowalski stressed that the day of the 1791 Constitution, the first modern one in Europe, means a lot for the Polish people, they are proud of the anniversary as it reminds of them of the merits gained in the creation of a modern Europe and of modern democracy.
Hungarian Deputy PM Tibor Navracsics was of the view that the Polish constitution is about being Central European. He called for the member countries of the Visegrád Group, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, whose combined GDP would be the world’s 15th, to now form closer cooperation on the economic front “to achieve big results.”

In his speech, Ambassador Kowalski stressed that "Freedom has always been for us, Polish people, a motor of activity, a priceless value for which we were and still are able to sacrifice a lot. That’s why this day – an anniversary of retrieving independence by Poland has a special dimension for us. Although it is a very joyful day, it also has a dimension full of reflection. It is also a day of remembering of those who paid the highest price for Polish independence."

He added that "93 years ago Poland returned to the map of Europe after 123 years and now how symbolic is 11th November 2011 when Poland is holding the rotating Presidency in the Council of the European Union and it turns out that in many aspects in Europe we are given as an ex ample to be followed. We are proud of this and we know that today the success of Europe becomes a guarantee of our independence."
