Former President of the Republic of Hungary had his bust unveiled in the Óbuda University park, which is in the neighborhood of the one-time residency of the late President. Árpád Göncz was the President of the country between 1990 and 2000.

Hungary's first post-Communist president, Árpád Göncz passed away in Budapest this Tuesday at the age of 93. He held the presidency, a largely ceremonial post, for two terms (1990-2000) as Hungary moved to a market economy and paved the way into NATO and the EU.

Current Hungarian President János Áder and former President Árpád Göncz, have sent telegrams of condolences for the death of former South African President Nelson Mandela. Two Hungarian parties also recalled the merits of the politician.
