The European Police College (CEPOL), established in 2005, has been moved from Bramshill, UK to Budapest, therefore, it is the first EU institution to have its headquarters in the Hungarian capital that was selected following a lengthy consultation and application process.

This week, the Hungarian capital hosted the 20th International Border Police Conference that also touched upon issues concerning the defense of the EU’s common border. The event was attended by Border security guards from 42 countries.

EU member states’ Home Affairs Ministers will return to the issue of the Schengen accession of Bulgaria and Romania by the end of September. This was the unanimous decision made at the Home Affairs Council meeting on June 9 in Luxembourg.

Representatives of EU member states and of the United States discussed the forms of combat against cybercrime and the amendment of related co-operation at a ministerial meeting in Budapest, calling for action in this field.

In the framework of the Hungarian EU Presidency, European Union interior ministers met in Gödöllõ near Budapest on Thursday to discuss current trends in internal security and ways to enhance practical cooperation in the fight against organised crime.

Three young women died at a club in downtown Budapest late Saturday night after panic broke out and guests were trying to leave. No other injuries were reported. Police detained five people in connection with the incident.
