Less EU funds, less investments in Hungary

The volume of investments in the Hungarian economy was 20.3% lower in the second quarter of 2016 than in the same period of 2015, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday. Compared to the previous quarter investments were down 0.8%.

Hungary’s fence on its border with Serbia will be reinforced with the instalment of a second barrier, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told state radio on Friday. The new fence will be built using the latest technology, the Hungarian news agency MTI reports.

Hungary has defended the women's kayak-four 500-meter title at the Rio Olympics, bringing the country's gold medal tally at the 2016 Games to eight. Gabriella Szabó, Danuta Kozák, Tamara Csipes and Krisztina Fazekas-Zur defeated Germany to win the race.

Hungarians working in foreign countries permanently or temporarily sent home less money last year than in the previous year, the business daily Világgazdaság said on Friday citing World Bank figures. The total transfer was 450 million dollars less than in 2014.
