Hungary flu death toll at 25, epidemic eases

A total of 25 people have died in Hungary this year after suffering from some type of influenza, a chief doctor of the National Epidemiology Center said. Overall, fewer people were taken to hospital with this disease than a week before.

Last year, there were 6.3 percent less births than the year before while the number of deaths remained steady, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Monday, quoting preliminary data.

"Airplane Gizi", a veteran female thief in her 85th year, has been caught again, in Bicske, west of Budapest. She received her nickname in the 1950s for utilizing the then exisitng domestic flights in Hungary for burglaries nationwide.

Some would say mass manufacturing was born in Hungary, for if was József Galamb who not only created Ford's Model T, or "Tin Lizzie" but was elemental in introducing the conveyor belt to production lines. Galamb was born 130 years ago.

Influenza is gripping Hungary. So far, nine people have died as a result of flu-related complications. More and more hospitals have banned visits due to contraction fears. Three of the victims had contracted influenza B.
