A committee of experts has selected Hungary’s most livable cities and towns for the first time. Holding the title in 2012 is Szolnok, a town of county rank in the middle of the Great Hungarian Plain, followed by Zalaegerszeg and Debrecen.

Budapest Airport Terminal 1 shut down

The last departing flight from Terminal 1 at Budapest Airport left for Stuttgart, Germany Tuesday night. The terminal is expected to be closed for five years for reduced traffic. So, as of May 30, all carriers use Terminal 2.

Easter shopping helps retail sales

The volume of Hungary’s retail sales grew by 0.5% month on month in March, according to data adjusted seasonally and by calendar effects, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported. In annual terms, sales in retail shops increased by 0.9%.

The South African ambassador to Hungary, Takalani Esther Netshitenzhe welcomed guests - diplomats, businesspeople and South African citizens living in Hungary - at the Gundel Restaurant in Budapest to celebrate her country's Freedom Day. This was the day in 1994 when the first democratic election was held in South Africa, i.e. an election when all adults could vote irrespective of their race, and the day in 1997 when the new constitution took effect.
