Hungary exceeds expectations at London Olympics

Surpassing expectations by most officials and fans alike, Hungarian competitors won eight gold, four silver and five bronze medals at the 30th Summer Olympic Games that ended this past Sunday, earning the 9th place on the medal table of nations.

Thursday produced two more gold medals for Hungary at the London Olympics: one, by Danuta Kozák in the women's 500-meter single kayak event, more or less expected; and a quite unexpected one by Éva Risztov in the women's 10-km marathon swim race.

Kayak golds for Hungary on Wednesday

Hungarian kayakers paddled to two gold medals at the London Olympics on Wednesday. Victories in the men's kayak double in 1,000 meters and the women's kayak four in 500 produced the 5th and 6th gold for Hungary at this Olympics.

Two more golds for Hungary at the Olympics

Gymnast Krisztián Berki won the men’s pommel horse event Sunday afternoon to take Hungary’s third Olympic gold at this Olympics, while compatriot Krisztián Pars followed suit in the evening by conquering the title in the men’s hammer throw.

Hungarian swimmer’s gesture moves Norwegians

Hungarian Olympic champion swimmer at the current Olympics, Dániel Gyurta will send a replica of his Olympic gold the family of his friend, Norway’s world class swimmer Alexander Dale Oen who died of heart attack three months ago.

Gyurta takes second Olympic gold for Hungary

Hungary's Dániel Gyurta has won the men's 200-meter breaststroke event at the 30th Summer Olympic Games in London this Wednesday. This is Hungary's fourth medal at the 2012 Games after a gold in fencing and a silver and a bronze in judo.

Hungary’s Áron Szilágyi won the men’s individual saber fencing competition to take the Hungarian delegation’s first gold medal at the 30th Summer Olympic Games in the British capital Sunday. The week-end also produced a silver and bronze for Hungary.
