EU Court rules against Hungary on judges’ age

The European Court of Justice has ruled that the radical lowering of the retirement age for Hungarian judges constitutes unjustified discrimination on grounds of age. The Hungarian Constitutional Court already deemed this law unconstitutional in July this year.

As of October 1st, Hungary took over the international mission to protect Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan from Belgium that performed this task for nearly ten years. Apart from Hungarians, the new protection force also includes Portuguese soldiers.

Judge reinstated after forced into retirement

The Labour Court of Zalaegerszeg in southwestern Hungary has restored to her earlier position a judge who had been forced into retirement under a law, proposed by the Orbán government, which has now been annulled by the Constitutional Court.
