The Hungarian Prime Minister has nominated Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Tibor Navracsics to serve as Commissioner in the next European Commission (EC). Before the official announcement, Navracsics revealed his nomination on Twitter.

"Now
it’s official. I’m Hungary’s candidate for the new European Commission,"
Navracsics said on his Twitter page. "Difficult job. Great honour,"
he added.

The Foreign
Ministry announced that Navracsics will be nominated by Prime Minister Viktor
Orbán as Commissioner in the new EC.

The new
European Commission is currently being formed after the European parliamentary
elections held in late May and will have 28 members nominated by the government
of each member state.

The field
Navracsics may oversee as Commissioner is yet to be decided, but sources in
Brussels suggest that he would probably be in charge of EU enlargement.
