Hungary qualifies for Euro soccer tournament

The Hungarian national football side has qualified for the 2016 European championship of 32 teams in France by defeating Norway 2-1 at the Hungarian leg of the playoff against Norway this Sunday. The first leg in Norway was also won by Hungary (1-0).

Hungary's László Barta won the Goldsteig Ultrarace in Germany by completing the 661 kilometer long cross-country distance in 143 hours and 57 minutes while compatriot Anna Örsi clocked 169 hours and 45 minutes to win the women's competition.

Oldest living Olympic champion 102 years old

The oldest living Olympic Champion, Sándor Tarics, who won gold in the 1936 Olympics with the Hungarian water polo team, turned 102 this Wednesday. He moved to the United States in 1948 where he taught at university and worked as construction engineer.

95-year-old Hungarian swimmer Béla Bánki Horváth won the men's 50-meter freestyle event in his age category at the FINA World Masters Championships in Kazan, Russia this Thursday. Two days earlier, he won the 200-meter backstroke with a new world record.
