The oldest living Olympic Champion, Sándor Tarics, who won gold in the 1936 Olympics with the Hungarian water polo team, turned 102 this Wednesday. He moved to the United States in 1948 where he taught at university and worked as construction engineer.
Sándor Tarics now lives in Belvedere, California. Being an Olympic
champion is a great achievement but Tarics managed to surpass even that in
civil life. His 1995 patent 'composite seismic isolator' revolutionized the
construction of earthquake-resistant high-rise buildings.
