Once the first Formula One Grand Prix beyond the Iron Curtain, the Hungarian GP is still special as it is one of the races (behind Monte-Carlo and Monza) to have continuously featured in the F1 calendar. Ths week-end Hungaroring hosts the 30th Hungarian Grand Prix.
Preceded by
a major car race in Budapest 50 years before, the 1986 Hungarian Formula One
Grand Prix was the first event of this race car competition behind the ‘Iron
Curtain’. Three decades ago, the winner of the first Hungarian Formula One
Grand Prix was Brazilian Nelson Piquet.
Now, the
defender of the title is Daniel Ricciardo of Australia, although, the favorite
is the leader in this year’s world ranking, Lewis Hamilton of the Mercedes
team.
