Hungarian skipper Nándor Fa finished 8th with his 'Spirit of Hungary' boat in the Vendée Globe round-the-world solo yacht race, arriving in Les Sables-d'Olonne, France with a time of 93 days, 22 hours, 52 minutes and 9 seconds.

Hungarian students die in Italy bus accident

16 people, most of them grammar school students from Budapest, have died in a bus accident on the motorway near Verona, Italy Friday night. The bus first hit the motorway barrier and crashed into the pillar of a flyover, followed by a fire on board.

Hungary's Sándor Shaolin Liu won the 1,000-meter event at the European Short Track Championship in Torino, Italy. He also finished second at the 3,000-meter superfinal while other members of the Hungarian team won another five silver medals.

Cherishing a tradition, a pine tree was erected as the Christmas Tree of the Country in front of the building of Hungarian Parliament this Friday. The 4.5-ton silver fir of about 20 meters in height was cut down in Sárszentmihály, Fejér County.
