The Mexican Embassy in Budapest hosted a 'Viva la Vida' concert this Monday evening in honor of Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón, known in the rest of the world as Frida Kahlo.

The concert, held in the courtyard of the Embassy and introduced to the over 80 attendees by Ambassador Dávid Nájera, was organized with the participation of the music ensemble ‘Volver la Vida’ to celebrate the famous Mexican artist as well as the Embassy resuming its cultural activities after a pause caused by the pandemic.

The members of the ensemble, Hungarian mezzo-soprano Zsuzsanna Bojta, Mexican baritone Manuel Betancourt and Japanese pianist Narihito Mukeda, performed Mexican songs including Historia de un amor (by Carlos Elena Almarán), Perfidia (by Alberto Domínguez Borras), Paloma negra (by Tomás Méndez), Júrame (by María Grever), Bésame mucho (by Consuelo Velázquez) and, of course, La Llorona (by Andrés Henestrosa).

At the concert, attended by several ambassadors and other invitees, the singers also read aloud from the letters and writings of Frida Kahlo to give a picture of her personality and art.
