At Christmas this year, two thirds of Hungarians expect to spend not more than HUF 50,000 for gifts, according to a new survey.
According to a representative poll conducted by Pulzus Kutató for the news site napi.hu, Napi.hu, a quarter of Hungarians say they do not spend on gifts at Christmas. The caution and uncertainty arising from the coronavirus epidemic, which has thoroughly rewritten this year’s retail scenarios, presumably plays a role in this.
Retail sales data already suggest that the turnover of clothes, shoes, computer items and second-hand clothes fell short of last year's level, while the turnover of food and medicines increased year-on-year in the first nine months of the year. In addition, internet traffic also increased massively in the context of the epidemic.
42% of the survey respondents plan to spend a maximum of HUF 25,000 on Christmas shopping, 21% of them are preparing a Christmas budget of HUF 25-50,0000 for the coming weeks. All this also means that almost two thirds of Hungarians would spend a maximum of HUF 50,000. Only 4% of those polled said that this amount would be more than HUF 100,000.
