The Apostolic Nunciature and the Embassy of the Republic of Albania are inviting fellow diplomats to to participate in a mass and photo exhibition about the life of Mother Teresa, to be held this Thursday, September 5 at Szent István Bazilika (Budapest, V. Szent István tér 1.)

At the initiative of Hungary, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus to designate 5 September, the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa, as the International Day of Charity. The representatives of Albania and the Vatican have issued a statement, which says that “the designation of the International Day of Charity will create a universal platform to enhance visibility, organize special events, create synergies and thereby further increase public support for charity.”

The document says resolution was co-sponsored by 44 Member States representing all five regions of the United Nations and this cross-regional support of the initiative reflects the universal recognition of charity and the enduring relevance of selfless giving in today’s world.

“Firmly convinced, that charity is a way of living, provides real social bonding and contributes to the creation of inclusive and more resilient societies, we, a group of Ambassadors (Albania, Apostolic Nunciature, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Philippine, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Mexico, Montenegro and Norway), under the patronage of Cardinal Péter Erdõ and the Major of Budapest István Tarlós, have the honor to present our initiative for organizing The First International Day of Charity here in Hungary on 5th of September, 2013.”
