Pandemic in Hungary: More and More Infections, Deaths

In the past three days, 17,834 new cases of infection and 214 deaths have been recorded, the official site says. That is an average of nearly 6,000 new infections over the three days, including the weekend.

Even taking that into account, the current figure is high: 6,800 new cases were reported on Friday and 11,200 a week ago, so compared to that, the current figure is 60% higher, the news site 24.hu reports.

The 214 fatalities over these three days represent an average of 71 deaths per day. A week ago, the government reported 152 deaths, again a very high increase of 40%.

The death toll has risen to 31,398.

A total of 3,980 patients with coronavirus are in hospital. That's ten percent more than there were on Thursday, and a hefty 50% increase from a week ago.
