Seven people died and four were injured when a van transporting illegal migrants crashed into a house in Mórahalom, in southern Hungary, late on Monday evening, police said.
The van was fleeing from police when it crashed shortly before midnight in the town near the Hungarian-Serbian border, spokeswoman Szilvia Szabó said. The driver, who also sustained injuries, was taken into police custody, she added.
The accident happened near the cemetery in Mórahalom, at the intersection of Szegedi út and Mező utca. The car crashed into the entrance of a flower shop, and a large piece of the wall of the shop was broken off. The vehicle came to rest on its side about 20 meters from the point of impact. The rear of the car was crushed and parts of the car were scattered on the main road
