Sándor Liu Shaolin, reprsenting Hungary, could feel Olympic champion for three minutes in the men's short track speed skating 1000-meter race, but after video review it was ruled that he had committed two fouls and was disqualified. Still, a Hungarian medal was won as his younger brother Liu Shaoang finished third.
The final had to be restarted twice because the first start was stopped after a few laps due to pieces of blade falling off one of the skates.
After the restart, Liu Shaoang was quickly eliminated from the medal contenders, while Sándor Shaolin was able to take the lead after a minor collision. The elder Liu brother was in a huge battle with China's Ren Ziwei until the last few meters, and the Hungarian skater fell after crossing the finish line, but was still happy as he was four thousandths faster.
However, Sándor Shaolin, who crossed the line first, was then disqualified for an illegal contact with another skater moments earlier at the end of an action.
His elimination - appealed by the Hungarian team - meant that his younger brother, Liu Shaoang was declared the winner of the bronze medal.
As the mixed relay team won bronze on Saturday, this is the first Winter Olympics in which the Hungarian delegation has won two medals.
