Another Hungarian police unit will be deployed to North Macedonia for border protection purposes, the communications service of the National Police Headquarters said on Tuesday on police.hu.

According to the statement, the Hungarian police officers serving in the 29-member contingent in North Macedonia will carry out their duties with their own equipment, and will exercise their authority to take action under the direction and supervision of the host country's police service.

Members of the 72nd Hungarian police contingent to North Macedonia were seen off on Tuesday in Budapest, at the central facility of the Hungarian Police Service.

The Hungarian police officers' main task is to carry out patrols to prevent and detect illegal border crossings and to help catch people smugglers and illegal immigrants.

It was stressed at the ceremony that the police are committed to preventing illegal immigrants from entering Hungary and the European Union. To this end, the force has offered its support to the Western Balkan countries.
