World Aquatics Championships End in Budapest

The 19th FINA World Aquatics Championships completed in the Hungarian capital this Sunday after over two weeks of competition, in swimming, artistic swimming, open water swimming, diving and waterpolo. The medal table of the event was topped by the United States with Hungary finishing on the 10th place.

17 days of competition at the 19th FINA World Aquatics Championships ended Sunday evening with the men's waterpolo final (Spain 9 - Italy 9 with Spain taking the world title after a penalty shootout).

The United States finished on the top of the medal table with 18 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze medals, ahead of China (18, 2, 8) and Italy (9, 7, 6).

Hungarian competitors won five medals altogether – in three disciplines (swimming, open water swimming and waterpolo).

Reigning Olympic champion in the men's 200-meter butterfly event, Kristóf Milák won gold both in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly events, the women's national waterpolo team finished second (losing the final to the United States) as did the Hungarian team in the open water swimming team competition, while Péter Gálicz came in third in the men's 25-kilometer open water swimming event.
