E.ON Hungária Installs over 165,000 Smart Meters

The electricity company E.ON Hungária is installing more than 165,000 new smart meters in its service area. The HUF 10.1 billion investment is being carried out under the EU's Recovery and Resilience Instrument (RRF) program, with the Hungarian government providing upfront funding.

State Secretary in charge of the project, Attila Steiner stressed that the government decided to prefinance the project because it considers it particularly important that these investments are implemented as soon as possible.

The program will use HUF 20 billion to install 290,000 smart meters, more than half of which will be provided by E.ON Hungária.

Guntram Würzberg, CEO of E.ON Hungária Group, said that "the advantages of the new generation of devices that replace traditional electricity meters include the fact that they can be read remotely and customers can get more accurate information about their own consumption.”

The data from smart meters speeds up fault detection and repair processes, facilitates remote reconnection and makes billing data collection seamless. “This allows the company to flexibly address customer needs and improve the quality of its service," he explained.

The CEO also said that the company had already installed 432,000 smart meters in Hungary and plans to install another 100,000 units this year, following the current program.
