The European Commission on Friday adopted a proposal to pay EUR 10.8 million in support to Hungarian farmers hit by spring frost.

All grape and fruit growers who have suffered a verified loss of more than 30% of their yield will be eligible for this aid, in addition to the damage mitigation allowance.

The EC said that frost affecting nearly the whole country in April and May had damaged apples, apricots, cherries, peaches, pears and quinces.

The funds available to Hungary must be paid out to beneficiaries who have suffered frost damage by April 30, 2026. Farmers who have suffered damage will also receive assistance from the damage mitigation fund in the usual manner, provided they meet the relevant conditions.

The EC also approved support for farmers in Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.
