The villages of Mórahalom (SE Hungary) and Hosszúhetény (SW Hungary) have been included on the 2025 ‘Best Tourism Villages’ list of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism).
At the press conference held in Mórahalom on Thursday to announce the recognition, state secretary Miklós Panyi said the settlement received the award for sustainable tourism development.
The state secretary noted that in 2023, Tokaj was the only Hungarian settlement to win the award, for which hundreds of villages apply every year.
He added that tourism directly and indirectly generates 13% of GDP, 100,000 SMEs operate in this field, and the sector provides a livelihood for 400,000 people.
