Hungary will take delivery of four new Gripen fighter jets at the Kecskemét airbase, East Central Hungary, by the end of June this year.
Hungary's 14 Gripens have defended not only its own skies but also those of Slovakia and Slovenia for two decades, with Hungarian pilots completing four tours in the Baltic mission. Last year's deployment alone saw over 400 flight hours, 22 live scrambles, and more than 80 training alerts.
The upgrade of Hungary's military has also included Airbus aircraft and helicopters, with A319s currently supporting evacuation flights amid the Iran conflict, and H145M and H225M helicopters deployed in flood rescues, fighting wildfires in the Balkans and KFOR missions.
Under a 2024 decision, Hungary's Gripen fleet will expand to 18 jets with the addition of four new aircraft, all set to arrive in Kecskemét by June 30.
