Éva Hegedüs, Chairwoman and CEO of Gránit Bank Plc. and the association’s former secretary-general, was elected president by a unanimous vote by the Hungarian Economic Association (MKT), the organization announced to MTI on Sunday.

According to the announcement, Éva Hegedüs succeeds Gyula Pleschinger who was nine years in the position. Gyula Pleschinger was elected honorary president for life by the delegates.

Éva Hegedüs is the first female president of the association in MKT’s 132-year history.

The professional association’s secretary-general is now Gábor Miklós Nagy, who previously served as the MKT’s head of the secretariat. At Friday’s general assembly to elect new officers, the delegates elected Zsolt Darvas, a researcher at the Bruegel Institute in Brussels and a senior research fellow at Corvinus University, as a new member of the association’s executive board.

Celebrating the 132nd anniversary of its founding on May 27, the economic association has approximately 3,000 members, 30 sections and 16 county organizations, and organizes 80–100 professional conferences annually.
