Architects, contractors and developers from all over Europe have gathered in Budapest for the Baumit Life Challenge 2026 awards gala. The Hungarian capital proved to be the perfect venue. Just as the Danube connects many of Europe’s cities, the Baumit Life Challenge brought together the continent’s most outstanding façades, the organizers said in a statement.

The winner of the ‘Baumit Life Challenge 2026’ is the Kellogg’s Hotel (in Bremen, Germany), which stood out from an exceptionally strong field with its innovative design and exceptional architectural quality. The winners of the other categories also represent the highest level of architectural excellence.

According to Zoltán Molnár, architect and Hungarian member and chair of the international jury, one of the most important questions in architecture today is how to preserve the value of genuine craftsmanship and unique thinking alongside technological progress. He emphasized that a good façade is not merely a formal game or a spectacular surface, but an architectural response underpinned by genuine thought, substance, and a concept that reflects the specific context. In his view, what the finalist projects have in common is that they all go beyond aesthetics, responding sensitively to their surroundings while also addressing issues of material use, sustainability, and cultural identity. He also emphasized that architecture today is in a sort of search for direction across Europe, yet the strongest works are always those in which a unique vision and a high level of professional expertise are present simultaneously.

Robert Schmid, CEO and owner representative of the Baumit Group, spoke with admiration about the outstanding quality and diversity of the entries. He particularly highlighted the creativity and professional expertise of the architects and all contributors, as their façades significantly contribute to the creation of livable spaces. He personally congratulated this year’s overall winner, the “Kellogg’s Hotel” project, highlighting its exceptional approach that blends innovation and tradition. This is a project that perfectly embodies Baumit’s values.

The Baumit Life Challenge has become one of Europe’s most prestigious architectural competitions. It not only recognizes design excellence but also promotes sustainable architecture across the continent. The event continues to serve as a platform that inspires, fosters professional dialogue, and drives innovation for the international community of architecture and construction culture.
