Foreign Minister Anita Orbán received the heads of mission of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Budapest on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations between Hungary and ASEAN, as well as its member states, and reviewed bilateral diplomatic, economic, cultural, and higher education ties between Hungary and individual South-East Asian countries.
The meeting was attended by Maria Elena P. Algabre (Philippines), Penny Dewi Herasati (Indonesia), Khamphone Vongsanty (Laos), Phrommes Bhaholpolbhayuhasena (Thailand), Bui Le Thai (Vietnam) and Norafizan Bin Mustaffa (Malaysia, chargé d'affaires).
In a social media post, the minister wrote that "we regard ASEAN as one of the most important actors in the Asia-Pacific region's security, stability, and development, and we strive for extensive cooperation in all areas."
She noted that "mutually beneficial cooperation" with ASEAN countries extended "beyond political and economic relations" to include higher education.
The 11-member ASEAN, with its nearly 700 million people and dynamic development, plays a key role in global trade and supply chains and a stabilizing role in international politics, making it an important foreign policy partner for Hungary and the European Union.
