Fully 5,790 children were born and 9,167 people died in Hungary in June, according to preliminary data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH) published on Friday.
The number of births fell by 2.6% (157 fewer) compared with June 2025, while deaths dropped by 3.1% (291 fewer). The natural population decrease - the difference between births and deaths - was 3,377, down from 3,511 in June 2025.
In the first half of the year, 34,312 children were born, a 2% fall (703 fewer) compared with the same period in 2025. Fully 62,330 people died, a 4.1% decline (2,679 fewer).
The natural decrease for January-June was 28,018, down 6.6% from 29,994 in the first half of 2025.
Marriages rose by 8.9% (403 more) in June, with 4,942 couples tying the knot. In the first half of the year, 21,177 marriages were registered, a 4.4% increase (895 more) compared with January-June 2025.
