Construction Output Volume Down by 12.2% Year-on-Year

In July 2026, construction output volume, based on both raw and working-day adjusted data, was 12.2% lower than a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office reports.

Output of both main construction groups decreased, that of buildings by 10.7% and that of civil engineering by 14.0%. Based on seasonally and working-day adjusted indices, construction output was 4.6% lower than in June 2026.

In July 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year:
Output decreased in both main groups of construction, falling by 10.7% in the construction of buildings and by 14.0% in civil engineering.

Among the divisions of construction, output in the construction of buildings declined by 12.6%, while output in civil engineering fell 35.8%. Output in specialized construction activities, having the largest weight within construction, was 0.5% higher than a year earlier. The drop in civil engineering was mainly driven by a 26.2% decrease in the volume of the group road, railways construction and a volume fall of 52.2% in utility projects, contributing -14.5 and -19.5 percentage points, respectively, to the performance of the division.

The volume of new contracts concluded lagged behind the one-year earlier level by 24.8%. Within this, the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings fell by 29.5%, and that for civil engineering works decreased by 20.2%.

The volume of the end-of-July stock of contracts at construction enterprises was 0.8% higher than in July 2025. Within this, the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings decreased by 1.9%, while that for civil engineering works increased by the same amount.

In the first seven months of 2026:
Construction output volume was 2.7% lower than a year earlier.
