The sales of organic products in Hungary rose by 28% between 2023 and 2025, almost double the pace of growth for the food and beverage market as a whole during that period, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (ÖMKi) has announced.
Sales in value terms reached HUF 53.8 billion. Sales in volume rose by 26%. According to the research institute, the domestic market for organic products is still in the early stages of development, with demand increasing.
ÖMKi presented the latest data on the domestic organic retail market and the potential for growth in the domestic market on the occasion of European Organic Farming Day (September 23). The results show that the Hungarian organic products market remains in an early stage of development but is clearly demand-driven: consumers are choosing organic products in an increasing number of categories, especially when they are easily accessible and offer good value for money.
The popularity of organic products can be boosted primarily by a favorable price-to-value ratio. Between 2023 and 2025, food prices rose by 34.5% while the average price of organic products increased by only 11.2%.
In Hungary, the area under organic cultivation is close to 400,000 hectares.
