Some HUF 447 million from the Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Program will support investments to connect close to 600 homes and more than 20 institutions to a geothermal heating system in Szentlőrinc (SW Hungary), the municipal council said on Tuesday.
The public procurement process for the project is expected to be announced in early October.
The announcement noted that the heating loop completed in 2011 currently serves 590 apartments and 23 other consumers, and as part of the new project, pipes carrying water at 70–75 degrees will be laid over a length of nearly two kilometers, and the heating systems of various institutions will be connected to it.
Thanks to the expansion, the local elementary and high schools, the kindergarten, and the social services center, among others, will be able to connect to the system.
The construction plans have already been finalized, and preparations for the public procurement process have been completed.
As part of the project, in addition to the investment, awareness-raising programs about the development have been held in the city over the past few months, according to the press release.
