The number of new passenger cars registered in Hungary rose 13.0% year-on-year to 108,422 in the first three quarters of this year, the Hungarian Association of Vehicle Importers (MGE) announced.
Excluding re-exports, new passenger car registrations increased 12.6% to 93,130.
Sales of all-electric passenger cars rose by 30.2% to 10,445 units, and their market share increased from 8.4% to 9.6% in the first nine months, driven by an increasingly affordable range of models as well as demand from the fleet market. However, the penetration rate of electric cars still lags behind the EU average of 21.7%.
Plug-in hybrid registrations surged 102.0% to 9,375.
Light commercial vehicle registrations edged down 2.9% to 16,527. However, excluding re-exports, LCV registrations rose 3.2% to 14,008.
In the first three quarters, 597 buses were put into service, representing a 29.2% year-on-year increase, which, according to MGE, indicates that the renewal of the bus fleet is continuing.
Momentum in the motorcycle market remained strong: between January and September, 8,509 new motorcycles were registered, 38.3% more than a year earlier, exceeding the MGE’s full-year forecast of 7,600 units.
