Sales of the German BMW brand rose by 3.4% in the Hungarian new-car market during the first nine months of 2026, and BMW Group Hungary closed out its strongest three-quarter period to date with 5,465 vehicles sold.

During the same period last year, the importer reported sales of 5,283 units—which was also a record at the time.

According to a Monday announcement by the Hungarian Association of Motor Vehicle Importers (MGE), 108,422 new passenger cars were registered in Hungary during the first three quarters, representing a 13% year-on-year increase compared to the same period last year.

Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rose by 30.2% to 10,445 units, and their market share increased from 8.4% to 9.6% in the first nine months.

In a press release, BMW Group Hungary highlighted that the biggest success this year was the BMW X3 and the all-electric BMW iX3—both manufactured in Debrecen—with 1,079 units sold over the nine-month period.

Demand for all-electric models within the brand also continued to grow: the 977 BEVs sold accounted for 17.9% of total BMW sales, compared to 15.7% in the first half of the year.

The most popular all-electric model is the BMW iX3, with 418 units delivered to domestic customers between January and September.

The press release quotes Zoltán Németh, Sales Director at BMW Group Hungary, who noted: the success of the first model in the Neue Klasse model family, built on a new-generation architecture, has exceeded all expectations; since its world premiere a year ago, the BMW iX3 has received approximately 100,000 orders, and to meet this demand, the Debrecen plant has been operating on three shifts since September of this year.

According to Zoltán Németh, the brand’s domestic sales are likely to remain strong for the rest of the year thanks to the arrival of several new models, including the refreshed BMW 7 Series, the all-new BMW i3 and X5, and the BMW M2 xDrive.
