The Russian owners of Hungarian airlines Malév will be offered a stake in a Hungarian gas storage facility in exchange for their shares, the Hungarian business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Friday quoting unnamed sources.
According to the paper, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will discuss economic decisions affecting Hungarian companies during his planned visit in Russia in November.
In order to weaken the Russians' bargaining position, Hungary plans to achieve Malev's liquidation, the paper said. After that, a new company can be set up using Malev's contracts and assets, and new Chinese or possibly Turkish owners can be involved.
The Ministry of National Development is preparing a solution based on the proposal of a liquidator lobby. This involves a special method for settling the company's debts which can help revive important companies that became insolvent, the paper said.
