Medical Universities Test 17,000 People in Hungary

Four Hungarian medical universities will start a national coronavirus test on May 1. Based on a representative sample, 17,778 people will be examined in two weeks to get an accurate picture of the extent of the epidemic and the actual number of people infected and re-infected with the new type of coronavirus, Béla Merkely, rector of Semmelweis University, announced at an online conference.


From May 1, the Semmelweis University of Budapest, the University of Szeged, the University of Pécs and the University in Debrecen will start a comprehensive screening test. The nationwide survey is supported by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, and the survey is led by Semmelweis University.

The painless test, called H-UNCOVER, is to be carried out on 17,778 people ( over 14 years of age) from all over the country, selected with the help of the country's Central Statistical Office. Participants also complete a short questionnaire.
