Hungarian-owned Eurotrade has inaugurated its 5-MW solar park in Környe, in north-western Hungary. According to the company's executive, Attila Szűcs, the HUF 1.6 billion (EUR 5m) investment, whose cornerstone was laid in April this year, was financed with the company’s own funds (30%) and a ten-year loan from the savings bank 'Takarékbank'. Eurotrade installed nearly 20,000 solar panels on an eight-square-kilometer area.

The solar park generates 6,400 megawatts of electricity annually, which corresponds to the electricity requirements of two thousand average Hungarian households. The company expects to recoup its costs within 8-9 years helped by a 20-year electricity purchase contract signed with transmission system operator Mavir.
