The Day of Hungarian Culture

January 22, 2020

The Day of Hungarian Culture has been celebrated on January since 1989 in memory of poet Ferenc Kölcsey who – on this day in 1823 – finalized the manuscript of what came to be the Hungarian national anthem.

Commemorations related to the anniversary provide an occasion for Hungarians to pay more attention to their millennial traditions, to their roots, to the strengthening of their national identity.

On this day, there were several cultural and art events in the country. One of them was the inauguration of the new storage facility of the Hungarian National Archives in the city of Szeged in SW Hungary (see picture). The renovated building used to be the headquarters of Hungarian Television's regional broadcasting office.
