At a charity event hosted by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry in Budapest, the diplomatic corps in Hungary have collected donations for the Missionaries of Charity and the Budapest Methodological Center of Social Policy.
At the December 11 event in the Hungarian Foreign Ministry where an exhibition on the life of Mother Teresa of Calcutta was also presented, Minister János Martonyi stressed that Mother Teresa's life proves that there was also a good side to the 20th century, although, this period was not the happiest, or the most beautiful century in human history, mentioning personalities like Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II.
János Martonyi pointed out that that although, the purpose of diplomacy is basically the representation of national interests, “we must not ignore the universal values and principles.”
According to the minister, millions worldwide remember Mother Teresa’s smiling face and fragile figure and Mother Teresa was loved at least as much in her chosen country, India as Gandhi.
Diplomats offering the largest donations at this charity event, sponsored by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the diplomatic corps, were presented – by the Foreign Minister – with a diploma and a statuette depicting Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
