More Frequent Digital Communication by the Elderly

The older generation is increasingly confident about smart devices or online video chat: nearly 30% of 60-69-year-olds in the Hungarian Internet population chat more than before the epidemic, according to Telenor's representative research.

The survey results suggest that tis year, 44% of Hungarians plan to have fewer personal meetings during the holidays due to the epidemic, and nearly 50% of them will not meet older relatives, parents, or grandparents living in non-shared households. As a result of the viral situation, the elderly are also less likely to have social interactions: 64% of those aged 60-69 have reduced the frequency of personal encounters.

Compared to a year earlier, four out of five people are less likely to meet those living in non-households, which is compensated by mobile and digital communications.
Since the epidemic, a third of Hungarians have made more mobile phone calls, but the use of digital platforms, chat applications and online conferencing tools has jumped the most: almost every second respondent uses at least one such application or device more often.
