The online General Assembly of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) voted this Sunday in favor of approving the Hungarian capital as the host city for the 46th Chess Olympiad in 2024.
As the Hungarian state news agency MTI reports, Budapest can host the fifth largest sports event in the world on the 100th anniversary of the founding of FIDE.
The 46th Chess Olympics is scheduled to be hosted at the Hungexpo fairgrounds in September 2024, with an expected 3,500 participants.
The tender dossier was discussed on Sunday and then voted on by the General Assembly of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) online. 111 of the delegates voted, 110 voted in favor of the Hungarian tender with one abstention.
