The British Business Centre, established with the cooperation of the British Embassy, the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and the British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary (BCCH) was officially aunched this Friday in downtown Budapest.

One of the major tasks of the newly opened Centre- located in the recently renovated Eiffel Palace office building - is to offer support and information about business opportunities in Hungary and the region for British companies, mainly SMEs, interested in operating in the country.

It will assist companies by offering market research, organizing personal meetings or business events, and providing IT infrastructure to corporations seeking potential business partners in Hungary for the development of their business.

Representatives of 33 companies who travelled to Budapest as members of the Mega Mission 2014 business delegation – primarily from the sectors of energy, transport infrastructure (particularly railways), healthcare, life sciences, retail and security – attended the Grand Opening Ceremony of the business center.

As UK Trade and Investment Minister, Lord Livingston pointed out at the opening that emphasized during the Budapest grand opening, “our aim is that every British business coming to Hungary has a seamless, quality end-to-end experience. Concretely, our vision is that by the end of 2018, with the contribution of the British Business Centre, the number of UK companies selling in the Hungarian market will double from 4700 to 9400. I am excited to be here at this landmark moment and to be able to launch the Centre. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in UK-Hungary commerce and partnership.”

The Hungarian Minister for National Development, Zsuzsa Németh was of the view that “launching the new centre shows that not only big investors are interested in Hungary, but we are also attractive to small and mid-sized firms as an investment destination. With the opening of the new Centre we hope to boost our existing business relations and anticipate successful cooperation between British and Hungarian small and medium-sized businesses."

The Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, Vazul Tóth, stressed that “the Chamber is happy to work with the British Embassy and UKTI opening the British Business Centre. More than 20 years of experience in assisting British and Hungarian companies will greatly contribute to supporting the British companies which decide to enter the Hungarian market. Our priority is to deliver tangible results by 2015. We firmly believe that the establishment of the Centre will have a positive impact on the competitiveness of Hungary in the region as well.”
