Sewage Water Data Predict Worsening Pandemic Situation

In week 17, the results of wastewater samples for coronavirus show strong fluctuations, with the decline of previous weeks halted. Sewage from most of the cities surveyed shows a stagnating trend, according to the National Center for Public Health.

While in the northern and southern wastewater treatment areas of Budapest, Debrecen and Szolnok (the latter two cities in the eastern part of the country), the amount of coronavirus pathogens in sewage water increased again, other municipalities – Eger (in the east), Kaposvár, Pécs (both in the south-central Hungary), Székesfehérvár and Tatabánya (SW and W of Budapest, respectiively) – showed a decrease, according to the National Center for Public Health.

The further development of the epidemic is strongly influenced by the awareness of the population, the strict observance of epidemiological prevention rules and the increased uptake of vaccination, the Center warns.
