Extreme heat continues in Hungary

Day by day new heat records are broken in Hungary with the maximum daily temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius (about 100 degrees Fahrenheit) and even the dawn temperatures are higher than ever before. No improvement expected before next week.

The latest record broken was the dawn temperature on Wednesday in Budapest. While on this day in 1950, the lowest temperature was 23 degrees Celsius (about 73 degrees Fahrenheit), on July 4th this year, it only went down to 24.5 degrees Celsius (some 76 degrees Fahrenheit).

The meteorological service forecasts that the heat wave is not going to ease before next week and the country’s chief medical officer extended the heat warning until midnight on Monday next week, with increased vigilance by the national ambulance service. A warning has also been issued concerning extreme ultraviolet B rays.
