The country's first fragrance museum was inaugurated in the Herb Garden of the Pannonhalma Abbey on Sunday, offering an insight into the thousand-year-old Benedictine monastic herbal culture.

In the Herb Garden's building 'A', the exhibition spaces of the show manufactory were created and the new essential oil distillation equipment was installed.

Building 'B' of the Herb Garden is home to the new and exciting Fragrance Museum created with European Union and Hungarian budget funding. The assembly, fabrication and installation of the interactive, sensory-rich exhibits have now been completed. As a new element to showcase the working processes, a tent is attached to building B, where the grape seeds produced by the Abbey Winery are prepared. The pressing and production process is open to visitors.

The exhibition also offers an insight into the five classic herbs of monastic medicine: peppermint, sage, thyme, lemon balm and lavender, as well as their botanical characteristics.
